NAHJ
June 22-28, 2003
New York, NY

Watch!
This 3-minute video gives you a sample of the stories we produced at the conference, along with images of the students reporting their stories and working with their mentors.

Macarena Hernandez, a reporter for the San Antonio Express-News, had material from one of her stories lifted by former New York Times reporter Jayson Blair. Ms. Hernandez spoke to an overflow crowd attending a panel during the NAHJ conference in New York City in June. The panel, including New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger, Jr discussed diversity, and whether media would continue to prioritize diversified newsrooms.

Listen to Ms. Hernandez's remarks.

She begins by answering a question posed by panel moderator Maria Hinojosa, CNN Correspondent and host of NPR's Latino USA. The question was "What have you learned from the Jayson Blair incident?"
