LoMonaco's Film Aired on Frontline/World

July 12, 2004 - Weekend Edition Saturday intern Claudine LoMonaco's documentary, "Death in the Desert," aired on the PBS series FRONTLINE/World on June 24. The film retraces the journey of Matias Garcia, a Zapotec Indian from Mexico who died in the Arizona desert trying to enter the United States in summer 2003.

LoMonaco co-produced the documentary with fellow graduate student Mary Spicuzza while finishing her degree from U.C. Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism. Before making the documentary, LoMonaco covered the U.S./Mexico border as a print reporter for The Tucson Citizen.
