Andrea Seabrook, NPR Biography
Weekend Host, All Things Considered
Andrea Seabrook was named weekend host of NPR's signature newsmagazine All Things Considered in September 2007. She joins All Things Considered weekday hosts Melissa Block, Michele Norris and Robert Siegel.
Seabrook comes to All Things Considered after more than four years covering Congress for NPR, most recently as congressional correspondent. As correspondent, she provided intensive coverage of the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives following the mid-term elections in 2006, in-depth profiles of now Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and ground-breaking reportage of the previous House Republican Majority. Through her reporting, Seabrook made stories about Congress as personal and compelling as the personal stories of every day American life. Seabrook, who was promoted to Congressional Correspondent in March 2007, covered the Hill since January 2003. She was previously a general assignment reporter for NPR.
"I love telling people's stories," Seabrook explains. "I love sound — I'd rather use my ears than my eyes. When you listen to a good story, whether it's a piece on NPR or a story your best friend is telling you, you see the story inside your mind. It becomes yours."
Seabrook has been a frequent guest host of NPR programs. She has hosted Weekend Edition Saturday and Weekend Edition Sunday, Talk of the Nation, and other shows, as well as NPR's live, special election coverage.
Seabrook began reporting for NPR in 2001, after serving in a variety of editorial and production positions. She joined NPR in 1998 as an editorial assistant for Anthem, an NPR music program. From there she moved to NPR's Mexico Bureau and provided fill-in coverage of Mexico and Central America. She returned to NPR and worked with NPR's Radio Expeditions series, a joint production between NPR and National Geographic, before moving to an editorial assistant position at Morning Edition.
Before coming to NPR, Seabrook lived, studied, and worked in Mexico City, Mexico. She ran audio for movies and television, and even had a bit part in a Mexican soap opera.
Seabrook earned her bachelor's degree in biology from Earlham College, with study in Latin American literature from La Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City. While in college, she worked at WECI, Earlham College's radio station.
