NPR® To Offer Member Stations GivingCapital's Automated Internet Fundraising
WASHINGTON - Through an alliance with GivingCapital LLC, NPR® will offer its member stations a new, automated Internet system designed to revolutionize the ways in which they process online donations from listeners. Stations that sign up with GivingCapital will have access to the Internet company's software in time for usage during this fall's fundraising campaigns. The Giving Capital software will allow stations to securely receive donations online and conduct real-time matching gift challenges.
"Our mission is to help NPR stations, large and small, try out new technologies and ideas," said NPR Onlinesm project manager Valerie Nozick. "This new resource will make it easier and quicker for member stations to do Internet fundraising."
While a growing percentage of NPR's member stations solicit and receive donations over the Internet, most of them currently process these donations manually. The GivingCapital system offers significant advantages because it processes online credit card donations automatically. GivingCapital also provides consolidated fundraising campaign data files to stations, enabling them to integrate online donor information into their membership databases.
"We are excited about the opportunity to work with NPR member stations," said Gretchen Nickel, president of GivingCapital. "Public radio listeners use the Internet in higher percentages than the public at large. This service will make it easier for public radio stations to serve their online audiences."
Renowned for its journalistic excellence and standard-setting news, information, and cultural programming, NPR reaches a growing audience of nearly 15 million Americans each week via more than 644 public radio stations. NPR also distributes programming to listeners in Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa via NPR Worldwidesm, to military installations overseas via American Forces Network and throughout Japan via cable.
NPR Online brings content, community and commerce to public radio station Web sites by providing programming and tools to public radio stations free of charge, building upon a mix of local and national content to enhance community elements for stations and program producers. NPR Online helps public radio stations strengthen their Web presence, better serve their listeners and attract new audiences online.
GivingCapital is a Philadelphia-based firm that provides online donation services and has created the first independent system to operate donor-advised funds online. The company currently has more than 100 nonprofit customers collecting or preparing to collect donations online through the GivingCapital system. Its customers include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Democratic Leadership Council, Republican Leadership Council, and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. GivingCapital is on the Web at www.givingcapital.com.
