NPR.org's All Songs Considered Premieres First-Ever Live Web Program

Be Good Tanyas to Appear on Janaury 21 2PM ET Webcast

WASHINGTON, DC - On Tuesday, January 21 at 2pm ET, All Songs Considered, NPR's Web-only music show (www.npr.org/programs/asc), will present a special live online performance with the Be Good Tanyas. NPR's Bob Boilen hosts the performance on camera from NPR's studio 4A.

The Be Good Tanyas will perform songs from their CD Blue Horse and pieces from their upcoming recording, Chinatown. During the show, Boilen will interview the band and give them a chance to DJ some selections from other artists that influenced their roots-based sound. Visitors to All Songs Considered at npr.org will be able to e-mail and chat with members of the group.

The Be Good Tanyas generated a strong positive reaction from NPR listeners following recent appearances on NPR's All Things Considered and All Songs Considered. "The Littlest Birds," one of the songs featured on NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday December 7, 2002, received particular acclaim from listeners, and is also featured on the latest NPR recording, All Songs Considered II. (All Songs Considered II is available at the NPR Shop, shop.npr.org).

Web visitors can see and hear All Songs Considered using Quicktime, or Windows Media Player or RealPlayer. This special, live edition of All Songs Considered is powered by Live Channel (www.channelstorm.com), software that turns a desktop computer into a virtual TV studio.

All Songs Considered is an interactive, multimedia music show that presents a unique mix of new and emerging music with interviews and an online slideshow of images and photos of the artists. All Songs Considered began in 2000, inspired by the countless letters from listeners who wanted to know more about the music played between stories on NPR's evening news program, All Things Considered. The program's director and live host, Bob Boilen, picks much of that music in his longtime role as director of All Things Considered. On All Songs Considered Bob plays full versions of some of those songs and much more.
