MEDIA ADVISORY: WILCO RETURNS TO NPR MUSICíS HIT LIVE-ONLINE CONCERT SERIES THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19

Concert Live From the 9:30 Club

Concert Series Features 60 Archived Live Concerts Including David Gray, The White Stripes, Sleater-Kinney, Barenaked Ladies, and Death Cab for Cutie Available at www.NPR.org/Music

WHAT: Hailing from Chicago, IL, influential rock band Wilco returns to the NPR Musicís concert series in the bandís second live online concert available at www.NPR.org/music. Wilcoís concert on February 24, 2005, was the second in the NPR series, generating more than 100,000 page views of its concert page on NPR.org.

WHO: Incorporating the alternative country style of founder Jeff Tweedyís previous group (Uncle Tupelo), Wilco eventually evolved into an alternative rock sound; winning both critical praise and a massive fan base. Wilco's last studio album, 2004's A Ghost Is Born, was their first to make the top ten U.S. album charts and won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. It was also many critics' pick for album of the year. Often compared to the Beatles, the Band, and R.E.M., Wilco is touring this fall before beginning work on their seventh studio album.

WHEN: Thursday, October 19, 2006, at approximately 9:00 PM (ET).

WHERE: The concert will be streamed live from Washington, DCís renowned 9:30 Club and archived for one year at www.NPR.org/music. All Songs Consideredís Bob Boilen hosts the online concert.

NPR Musicís hit audio webcasts, co-produced with WXPN Philadelphia or NPRís online music program All Songs Considered, launched in January 2005 and have featured more than 60 live events to date. Nearly all of the live concerts are archived on the NPR Music website, including many as free MP3 downloads.

With listener response coming from around the world, the concerts have showcased an eclectic group of performers including Death Cab for Cutie, David Gray, The White Stripes, Sleater-Kinney, Barenaked Ladies Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arctic Monkeys, Belle & Sebastian, James Brown, Sinead O'Connor, Interpol, The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, The Secret Machines, Lucinda Williams, Roseanne Cash, They Might Be Giants, David Gray, among many others.
