SNAP JUDGMENT BRINGS STORYTELLING WITH A BEAT TO NPR

WEEKLY BROADCASTS BEGIN JULY 15 ON NPR MEMBER STATIONS;
PROGRAM, PODCAST AVAILABLE AT SNAPJUDGMENT.ORG

The search for a modern Utopia in the most unlikely places. Real-life super-heroes, bending time and space to transcend mortal boundaries. Rocking tales of living life, and finding success the “hard way.” These stories of extraordinary and defining moments in people’s lives compose the first installment of Snap Judgment, a new weekly public radio program distributed by NPR.

Snap Judgment dares listeners to see a sliver of the world through another’s eyes with raw, intimate and musical narrative. It’s storytelling, with a beat.

Snap Judgment begins this week as an hour-long series on NPR Member stations and at SnapJudgment.org Visit the site to read the show’s blog, get the podcast, hear stories and specials, meet the Snap Judgment production team and find stations carrying the show.

On Snap Judgment, host Glynn Washington takes listeners on a narrative journey, dropping them into the heart of each story. The show highlights compelling people from across the globe with one commonality: they put everything on the line. As Washington explains: “It’s the Robert Frost thing: the roads diverge, and you have to make a choice. You always wonder what your life would have been if you'd gone the other way.” Snap Judgment stretches the medium of radio, layering DJ-driven soundscapes with lyrical storytelling, intimate conversations and live performances.

Washington, a winner of PRX’s Public Radio Talent Quest, was ultimately selected by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to receive a major grant to produce Snap Judgment. In addition to the NPR-distributed program, Snap Judgment is staging three live storytelling events this year – the first, recorded last month in San Francisco, is part of this week’s radio show. Additionally, Snap Judgment releases a series of specials for public television this fall.

Snap Judgment thrives on real stories, from real people. SnapJudgment.org encourages audiences to share their own stories through audio, video, photos and text. Follow the show’s community on Facebook and Twitter, or call the Snap Judgment hotline, 888-304-SNAP.

Snap Judgment is produced in Oakland, CA. Glynn Washington is the host and executive producer of Snap Judgment; Mark Ristich is executive producer. Meet the entire production team at: SnapJudgment.org/about-us.
