Cara Philbin, NPR
When once each month, we offer one poet a seat.
They'll shadow assorted beats and production alike,
And compile special verse on news and NPR life.
Then come four o'clock, when All Things Considered does air,
Their profile and newsroom poem will be broadcast then and there!
To keep the segment strong, contests and web extras NPR will tout,
And a multimedia read along will help with your cadence, no doubt.
It's quite the task, beating poetry's impervious curse,
Simply said, our goal is awakening listeners' interest in verse.
With support from the Poetry Foundation, and our producers' insight,
NPR Books hopes to thrust poetry back in the public light.
