NPR NEWS EXCLUSIVE: FIRST CRIMINAL CHARGES FILED IN BP OIL SPILL

NPR News is exclusively reporting that the first criminal charges have been filed in connection with the Gulf Coast oil spill caused by the explosion of BP's Deepwater Horizon drilling rig two years ago. NPR's news blog the Two-Way has the story.

NPR Justice Correspondent Carrie Johnson reports that BP engineer Kurt Mix is being charged with obstruction of justice in a criminal complaint. He is accused of deleting text messages after the spill that related to the amount of oil gushing into the Gulf. Johnson quotes a law enforcement official that more charges are expected to follow. Mix will make his first court appearance in Houston later today.
