SUCCESSFUL PILOT SEASON NAMED
"BEST NEW AUDIO PODCAST OF 2012" BY ITUNES EDITORS
Each episode of TED Radio Hour tackles a central theme or question, such as: How do we define beauty? Are we alone in the universe? What happens to our humanity as we become increasingly dependent on machines? Drawing from the vast archive of TED Talks, delivered by remarkable people from around the world, TED Radio Hour host Guy Raz digs deep into each subject through conversations with TED speakers and other guests.
Music and sound weave throughout each episode, bringing the themes and concepts to life through vivid radio storytelling. Listeners hear intimate, sound-rich portraits of what it's like to have a psychotic breakdown, to feel a massive asteroid strike the earth, or to fall deeply in love with a robot. "We have concentrated on how to make the program and its exploration of ideas more sonically sophisticated and deep," says Eric Nuzum, Vice President of NPR Programming. The result is a journey through fascinating ideas, astonishing inventions and new ways to think and create.
The program - produced in collaboration by NPR and TED - debuted as a 10-episode pilot season in 2012, recognized as the "Best New Audio Podcast of 2012" in iTunes year-end best-of lists.
"We're constantly looking for opportunities to innovate and share TED ideas as widely as possible," says June Cohen, Executive Producer of TED Media. "With TED Radio Hour, we saw the opportunity to adapt TED Talks for a listening audience. NPR was the ideal creative partner. That so many people have responded to TED Radio Hour is truly thrilling, and is a testament to the journalistic work by host Guy Raz and the entire team at NPR."
