April 5, 2001   Dear Listeners: Thanks so much to all of you for your wonderful messages. They made a happy anniversary even happier. Renee Montagne's piece on Morning Edition came as a complete surprise. I thought I'd died, and it was my obituary! What's remarkable about NPR is how many "lifers" we have. ATC's Linda Wertheimer arrived here two weeks before I did, Science Friday's Ira Flatow arrived five months later, and there are at least 15 off-air folks -- in engineering, administration, planning -- who've been here for their entire careers. That says something about our commitment to public radio, and to you, for sticking with us for so long. Again, my most sincere thanks. Wishing us all another 30, Susan Stamberg
