Highlights
To get to the heart of the global warming story, the very heart of it, it turns out that the scientific explanation hangs on the behavior of one very particular atom. Carbon. And the more you know about carbon, the more you’ll know about global warming. Carbon is the central element of life, so much so that every living thing alive, from a housefly to a rooster to a tiger, is built on carbon.
In a five-part Web original cartoon series, NPR science correspondent Robert Krulwich and animator Odd Todd explain how the special characteristics of the carbon atom have made it such a powerful and troubling force in the world today.
Part of NPR and National Geographic’s year-long news multimedia series, “Climate Connections: How Climate Shapes People and How People Shape Climate.”
