Doesn't seem like such a terrible job.
The most prominent jazz guitarist in America is quitting his job — or as Bill Bragin said this morning over Twitter, perhaps he's finally going back to his job. The announcement that bandleader Kevin Eubanks will soon leave The Tonight Show with Jay Leno house band is perhaps old news by now. So let the speculation begin: who will replace him? Given the history of jazz musicians in charge — Eubanks, Branford Marsalis, Doc Severinsen — not to mention all the straight-up jazz giants who have played in the band, one hopes jazz/-ish musicians will be represented. The Newark Star-Ledger hypothesizes in this vein. For my part, I started thinking of musicians I'd want to replace Eubanks (has a woman ever been a prominent talk show bandleader?), but realized I couldn't think up many folks I'd want to give national attention to and force to guffaw along with Jay Leno every day. #rimshot [NJ.com: Kevin Eubanks to quit 'The Tonight Show': Who should replace him?]
