Is now available at Wolfgang's Vault. That means sets from Mose Allison, the Thelonious Monk quartet, the Stan Getz quartet, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the Count Basie Orchestra and Joe Williams (but not together, sadly) are all available for free streaming, and paid downloads. In addition, there are other acts which the jazz press has forgotten — Rod Levitt and Ethel Ennis among them — and of course, the entire Newport Jazz Festival collections from 1959 and 1960, released previously.

My personal pick of this litter goes to the intriguingly weird George Russell sextet, with Thad Jones, "Tootie" Heath, Steve Swallow, John Gilmore ... yea, I know, right? (Frustratingly, the listings mention vocalist Sheila Jordan, but the tape fades out before we can get to hear her breathtaking turn on "You Are My Sunshine." Ah well.) Stream it free at 96 kbps mp3, which personally makes my ears crinkle a bit, or pony up for some higher-grade or CD-quality files. [Wolfgang's Vault: Jazz: 1964, July 3rd - Playlist]
