Pakistani 'Take Five' Is The Best Selling Jazz Thing On iTunes
by Patrick Jarenwattananon
After a BBC report, and some word-of-Internet buzz, this version of "Take Five" is easily the most popular thing on the most popular jazz album on iTunes.
Sachal Jazz: Interpretations of Jazz Standards & Bossa Nova is the brainchild of Izzat Majeed, a U.K.-based investor and philanthropist (and jazz fan) who financed a custom studio for the musicians of Lahore, Pakistan. This is the studio's latest creation, now also second on the Amazon MP3 jazz rankings.
Three more thoughts:
Let's not forget that the original "Take Five" was actually a mainstream hit too. I like that they designed a tabla solo where the Dave Brubeck Quartet gave Joe Morello a drum solo.
