Sigur Ros vs. My Spell Checker

by Bob Boilen

The new Sigur Ros CD is remarkable. We'll feature a track from the disc, titled med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust, on All Songs Considered. The Icelandic band is known for creating moody songs, not catchy hooks, but this disc offers both.
The CD comes out on the 24th of June.

As for favorites, the songs "inni mer syngur vitleysingur" and "vid spilum endalaust" are running neck-a-neck. Titles are often an issue with Sigur Ros; either I can't remember them or they don't title them.

I decided to run the titles for the new CD through my spell checker, which caused "nni mer syngur vitleysingur" to become "Inane Merry Singers Vitleysingur" and "vid spilum endalaust" to become "Avid Spilled Endoblasts," both of which are so much easier to remember.

Below are the rest through the spellchecker.

SAGUARO EROS (SIGUR ROS)

1. Gobbledygook
2. Inane Merry Singers Vitleysingur
3. Gonad Dragon
4. Avid Spilled Endoblasts
5. Festival
6. Stud in Serum
7. Art Batter
8. Lingers
9. Fljotavik
10. Stamens
11. All alright

I would buy a "Gonad Dragon" tshirt. And then not wear it, probably.

Sent by Tom Clancy | 3:24 PM ET | 06-11-2008

hahaha, that is the funniest thing i have seen today. some fans might be outraged, but i imagine the band would appreciate the humor.
i think i'm going to pick one of those titles for the name of my next band!

Art Batter! ...I bet it makes a fantastic pastry!

Sent by Kristin | 3:58 PM ET | 06-11-2008

Art Batter is the best thing I've ever heard.

This was great!

Sent by Nikki | 4:05 PM ET | 06-11-2008

I'd TOTALLY wear a Gonad Dragon t-shirt.

Sent by Cate | 5:02 PM ET | 06-11-2008

SAGUARO EROS.

If I ever make a band that will be the name.

Sent by Ruben | 9:34 AM ET | 06-12-2008

Your spell checker is for seriously dyslexic people. That's incredible.

I would also wear a Gonad Dragon t-shirt. I would probably even wear a Stud in Serum t-shirt.

Sent by David W. | 10:12 AM ET | 06-12-2008

Gonad Dragon is far and away the best. I don't know what else to say... When will the T-shirt come out?

Sent by Nick Silhacek | 10:33 AM ET | 06-13-2008

Hah this was great!

Sent by Bryant | 9:04 PM ET | 06-13-2008

Gonad Dragon, Stud in Serum, and Stamens? Can those song names be said on air?

I'm a medium, by the way.

Sent by Conor | 9:35 AM ET | 06-16-2008

You didn't use your Hopelandic babblefish translator?

Sent by Alex M. | 10:51 PM ET | 06-16-2008

They now sound like titles for a new Robert Pollard album.

Sent by Mike S. | 3:26 PM ET | 06-17-2008

Hah!! Gonad Dragon!

These titles really are easier to remember, though. I feel like a bad fan because I only know the name to a couple songs. Even the untitled tracks on ( ) are easier for me to sort out in my mind that all their other titles.

I really got into ??g??tis byrjun 5 or so years ago and possibly burned myself out on that album. Since then I've heard bits and pieces of their later albums but nothing stuck with me. What are their other generally accepted "best" albums that I should give a second chance to?

Sent by Jeremy McBane | 1:03 PM ET | 06-20-2008

All of these would make excellent band names except Avid Spilled Endoblasts, which is probably already the title of a Guided By Voices outtake.

"Hello, Chicago! We are Gonad Dragon!"

Sent by Sam | 10:24 PM ET | 06-20-2008

So, if someone could get on that whole GOnad Dragon shirt idea....

Sent by Phil | 12:31 PM ET | 06-26-2008

Done.

LOL!

Sent by Dave | 4:40 PM ET | 06-26-2008

yeah....gonad dragon, Stud in Serum, Stamen? You have to wonder if there is some sexually repressed subliminal message in all that....

Sent by Babooski | 11:54 PM ET | 06-30-2008

Haha!

"Saguaro Eros" and "Stud in Serum" are my favorites, but those are all fantastic.

Sent by Nick | 1:21 PM ET | 07-12-2008

Is it just me or does it sound like SR was slightly influenced by NEON BIBLE on these new, upbeat tracks?
