Videos From SXSW: Sharon Van Etten, Peter Wolf Crier

This video of singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten doesn't do her or her unbelievable voice justice. Hopefully we'll have her in the NPR Music offices for a proper Tiny Desk Concert in the near future. But I grabbed this quick video of her utterly mesmerizing performance in Austin earlier today. There's a wounded heart in Sharon Van Etten and it is singing. NPR Music editor Stephen Thompson and I were sitting next to each other during the performance, and at some point I passed him a note that said, "I can't recall hearing anything more beautiful in all my life."

If Sharon Van Etten sounds familiar to you, you might remember Kyp Malone (TV On the Radio, Rain Machine) playing her on one of our guest DJ episodes.

Peter Wolf Crier is a duo from Minnesota we mentioned in our SXSW preview show. These guys have an awful lot of talent. Love the drummer (Brian Moen). And guitarist Peter Pisano did some crazy stuff with a loop pedal, especially with his vocals. You'll notice the sound gets a little distorted toward the end of this clip. The echo loop he had going on the harmonies just blew my mic out.
