Kelli Scarr is about to release her debut solo album, Piece
We first met Kelli Scarr when she assisted Moby in the NPR Music Series Project: Song. The duo bravely faced the challenge to write and record a song in just two days. (You can watch their triumph here). Now Kelli Scarr is coming out with her own, debut solo album. It's called Piece and we've got the first exclusive single, "Driftwood," available for free download.
Scarr proves to be a courageous songwriter on Piece, one who makes herself incredibly vulnerable with each delicate track. Her soothing melodies are always the focus as the songs flow from resonating echoes of piano and guitar to stillness.
Though at times ethereal, the album has a warm nostalgic style- especially in this charming, '50s pop song, "Driftwood."
Scarr's voice seems effortless, but capturing that breezy tone was an exhaustive two-and-a-half-year process. Between touring with Moby's band and raising a child, Scarr found solace in this beautifully cathartic record, due out on July 27.
