Hey, how about making that album you've always wanted to make?
Well, put your excuses, your friends, your work and your family aside and hit the big, red record button.
Bob Boilen will take the RPM Challenge. Will you?
February 1 marks the beginning of the RPM Challenge. It's the annual invitation to "record an album in 28 days, just because you can." Your finished album should be at least 35 minutes long and composed of all-new material. That's it. I'm going to start my fifth album with my friend Michael Barron. Our first was a reunion of our band Tiny Desk Unit. Since then, we've become Danger Painters, and this will be our fourth album together as Danger Painters. You can follow our progress on our Tumblr blog. The Challenge was started in 2006 by The Wire, a small New Hampshire publication, and now it's an inspiration to musicians all around the world.
This year, All Songs Considered will follow musician Son Lux all month long as he makes an album for the RPM Challenge right in front of our eyes and ears. Watch this blog as Son Lux goes out on a limb for all of us.
For information on the RPM Challenge, take a look at their website. Remember that there are no winners; it's a challenge, not a contest. You get the satisfaction of chasing your dreams and doing something with them for a change.
