There's no better festival for discovering new music than South By Southwest. Around two thousand bands from all over the world descend on Austin, Texas for the annual event. It's now just two weeks away, and I can't wait to be back. NPR Music will be there starting March 14 and we'll have wall-to-wall coverage, with live video of full concerts, photo galleries, podcasts and more.

This year, we are proud to offer a number of firsts:

  • Fiona Apple's first show outside of Los Angeles in five years.
  • The first broadcast of the SXSW Keynote (this year's speaker is Bruce Springsteen).

Here's who you'll be able to see in our live broadcasts on NPR Music:

Mar. 14 - Official SXSW Showcase At Stubb's
Andrew Bird
Alabama Shakes
Dan Deacon
Sharon Van Etten
Fiona Apple (This set will not be broadcast live. More details to come.)
[SXSW badge required]

Mar. 15 - The SXSW Music Keynote: Bruce Springsteen
Starting at 1 p.m. ET, 12 noon CT, watch Bruce Springsteen's keynote speech.
[SXSW badge required]

Mar. 15 - The NPR Music Day Party At The Parish
The Magnetic Fields
Lower Dens
Polica
Sugar Tongue Slim
La Vida Boheme
[Free; 21+; No RSVP, but space is limited]

Set times are detailed at NPR.org/sxsw. Each event will be broadcast at NPR Music, where you can watch live on your desktop, tablet and phone or use our apps to watch on Apple TV. Listen live in Austin on KUT 90.5 FM. Check your local public radio schedule for listening opportunities in your city.

Most sets will be archived for on-demand viewing and for download in the All Songs Considered Live Concert podcast. Subscribe now to automatically receive the shows as they become available. All Songs Considered co-host Robin Hilton and I will also be joined by NPR Music's Stephen Thompson and Ann Powers for late-night updates in our regular podcast, so you can catch up on what we've heard that's most exciting. But if you can't wait until then, we'll have a SXSW preview on the Mar. 6 edition of All Songs Considered, with a look at some of the new and emerging bands we're most excited to see this year.

You can also hear of some of this year's standout SXSW artists in our Austin 100, a mix of 100 songs you can stream all day online.

Plenty of public radio stations will be presenting showcases in Austin, too. Look for more details at KUT Austin, WXPN Philadelphia, KCRW Los Angeles, WFUV New York, The Current Minneapolis/St. Paul and KEXP Seattle.
