The Walkman (remember it?) is making a comeback — in Japan.
Bloomberg is reporting that for the first time in four years, Sony's Walkman has outsold the iPod in Japan.
Sony's share of portable music players climbed to 43 percent in the week ended Aug. 30; Apple's share is 42.1 percent. The maker of the now-ubiquitous iPod has kept that lead since January 2005.
An analyst quoted by the news agency says Sony was able to gain customers by lowering the price of its W series of cordless players.
In the U.S., the iPod dominates the market, with a more than 70 percent share.
