Consumer Electronics Association CEO Gary Shapiro released a book, The Comeback, at Thursday's opening of the massive Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The country needs new public policies to spur technological innovation, he said. In his book's "blueprint for success," Shapiro urges lawmakers and regulators to support freer global trade, more open immigration, better schools and improved broadband.
Shapiro said during his opening-day speech that he would be signing books at the show. But he added that at CES, where change is constant, a reader might not be making a wise financial decision by plunking down $24.95 for a hardback. Most likely, "there will be a cheaper and better version next year," he joked.
