Alison Stewart Signs On To The BPP

We are proud to announce that Alison Stewart has joined NPR as co-host -- along with Luke Burbank -- of our new morning show. From our very own press release:

Stewart joins NPR from NBC and MSNBC, where she has been anchor of the MSNBC daily news show The Most, newsreader and substitute anchor for NBC's Weekend Today and contributor to Today. Since joining MSNBC in 2003, she has anchored coverage of such news stories as Hurricane Katrina, the 2006 Olympics in Torino and the Israel-Hezbollah conflict. Previously, she was an anchor for ABC News' World News Now and contributor to 20/20 Downtown and Good Morning America, and was part of the network's Emmy Award winning team reporting on the September 11 terrorist attacks. Stewart began her career as a political reporter for MTV News, working on the channel's 'Choose or Lose' election coverage in 1992 and 1996. She was honored with a George Foster Peabody Award for MTV's coverage.

In addition to being a brilliant, talented, award-winning journalist -- she's also an awesome person and I'm sure you'll all love her. But, we thought our feelings would best be expressed through song (which we admit makes very little sense) and video. So, thanks to our good friends at Jumpcut, we conjured up this little gem. We'll be waiting for the call from Sundance...

Can someone ask Mrs. Stewart what role the Imus controversy played in her decision to move on?

Sent by justmy2 | 11:25 AM ET | 05-20-2007

I am addicted to MSNBC and never miss an evening of Olbermann, I hope Mrs. Stewart continues to stand in for Keith. Hope to still see her deliver news headlines on MSNBC as well. Good luck to you Allison!!

Sent by Jessica | 11:34 PM ET | 06-02-2007

Congrats, Alison. You are simply splendiferous! Don't stop sitting in for Keith or I'll miss you terribly. Cheers for Alison! Hooray!

Alison -- I always enjoyed your style when you were on Countdown. Now I look forward to listening to you on NPR!

Sent by Mark | 12:17 AM ET | 06-20-2007

Aw NPR, you stole the soul out of my afternoons. Alison was the only one that could keep an old man awake in the PM. Well you take good care of her or I'll have to suit up and come down there.

Sent by Ernest Newsum | 1:30 AM ET | 07-16-2007

Love your work. MSNBC was nuts to let you get away. I hope NPR will be a lot less sleepy now that you are on board. I will tune in.

Best wishes to you.

I have missed seeing Alison on MSNBC and was wondering where she'd gone. Yay, for you!

Sent by Kim C | 11:34 AM ET | 09-14-2007

I could not agree with Jessica more!
She is like a female Olbermann!
I hope she stays on MSNBC, too.

Sent by Nancy Schindler | 4:38 PM ET | 09-18-2007

Why did Alison leave MSNBC?

Sent by Austin | 1:02 AM ET | 09-19-2007

Along with Keith she was the best thing MSNBC had. I will miss her witt, smarts, and looks.

Sent by Austin | 1:11 AM ET | 09-19-2007

So a real beauty with brains is now doing radio? What's the point of that? She doesn't have a "radio" face.
Please give her back to TV land!

Sent by bri | 1:25 AM ET | 09-22-2007

Allison Stewart, all I can say it to bad, NPR is radio, she's a real knock out. "And then I saw her face, now I'm a believer..."

Sent by Walter McDonough | 9:10 AM ET | 10-04-2007

Alli
What did you do to tick off the 'powers that be' at NBC/MSNBC ? Well, at least you're still working, unlike other former MSNBC folks...I'll check out your new show.

Sent by Mo'o Kahn | 11:24 PM ET | 11-02-2007

I loved Alison on The Most and filling in For Keith. Now that I know she's on NPR,(heard that on Real time with Bill Maher) I'll be a regular listener.

Sent by Patti Shapiro | 3:00 PM ET | 11-03-2007

Allison, you are trully the peoples champion! You and Olbermann are the Truth. I have always kept up w/ you since your beautiful radiant face was first shown on my T.V. I love you for who you are and what you do! I am so very proud of you. You and Keith (MSNBC) are the "NOW" and the "FUTURE". Forever stay in Gods favor Allison. KIsses

Sent by Antonio | 3:16 PM ET | 11-07-2007

Allison, we miss you so very, very much. My husband and I miss your filling on "Countdown", because you are the only one who can do that show in Keith's absence and do it right. We will however follow your career wherever you end up. Good luck, and thanks for the memories.

Sent by Oneet | 5:39 PM ET | 11-08-2007

Allison is great and really down to earth person.

I had a few interactions with her when she was working on ABC NEWS NOW. We had an uncanny ability to fiend for snacks at the vending machine at the same time. (or maybe I was stalking her. lol)

Great get.

Sent by Mike W | 2:43 PM ET | 11-14-2007

I was just watching someone fill in on Keith Olbermann's show. No one but Allison can quite do it like Keith. She was able to capture that unique touch of sarcasm. I miss her on MSNBC! I've never been a listener of radio, but I just might have to start. Best of luck, Allison.

Sent by Kim G | 12:42 AM ET | 12-04-2007

Awesome and congrats Allison. You're easy on the eyes and pleasant to listen to. I did note your new Doo this evening while filling in for Olberman, very nice look.

Sent by Bob Sparkman | 1:13 AM ET | 12-18-2007

I first noticed Alison in her MTV days like most men I admired her for her form along with Karen Bryant. However there was more to Alison than just her presentation of the news.It was her ability to have ones attention and have you as if you were with her in person. And now that she has added all that polish to her game she has me wanting to turn corners with her and see the USA in a super deluxe tour bus.

Allison you are beautiful and talented person and I wish you the best.

Sent by keith harmon | 5:08 PM ET | 02-28-2008

I adore Alison and I have missed seeing her since she left msnbc and the most show. I am so glad that she is still standing in as the best possible replacement for Olbermann (on my favorite show on tv). I think she looks great with the new do but I love the curls on her.

Sent by Dayna Hanks | 1:23 AM ET | 03-15-2008

Alison, hurry back for us spoiled viewers who so enjoy your flare, wit and intelligence on Countdown! Olbermann, Maddow, and you are the best!

Sent by Walt W in San Bernardino, CA | 12:05 AM ET | 04-06-2008

Allison is the "best" and I really miss her on Countdown!! Noone else is able to keep my attention like she does. ( did):(
I realize that NPR may be more intellectually stimulating, and they are lucky to have her. but I am greedy and want the whole package, which radio doesn't provide.

Sent by Pat Hare | 12:12 AM ET | 05-17-2008

Allison kept this night nurse awake when she did that all night news show--I appreciated a smart, witty and original journalism artist when I see one.
I miss you and it is MSNBC's loss of course. Keep on keepin on Allison, be yourself, it makes us smile when you is being YOU! now I can drive you around South Dakota on my iPod.
