He Hates Us! He Really Hates Us!

So I was clicking around on the always excellent Gawker today, and noticed an oldish post from them dissing David Broder for writing about how he only listens to Morning Edition. A little further down in the comments section, I saw this gem from someone with the handle bacon-yum:

I love the judgment inherent in saying that he only listens to NPR, not like those low-life plebians who listened to Imus. I have NPR set on my alarm clock, because the grating, fuzzy-wuzzy, overly-earnest tone of it makes me snap awake with a shudder of revulsion. I grew up in an NPR house, that s*** makes my skin crawl. F****** Morning Edition, f****** Prarie Home Companion, f****** Fresh Air, f****** All Things Considered, hate, hate, hate. Sorry, the mere mention sets me off. Don't even get me started on WBAI.

Yikers. bacon-yum be haaaaating the NPR.

That's okay, though, the bacon-yums of the world are precisely the folks who we are trying to reach with this new show. As soon as I can figure out how to email him / her (for some reason I just assume that someone with bacon-yum as their nickname is a dude, but I could be totally wrong) we are going to try to start up a little dialogue. What do you guys think?

I don't know about other women but I love a good burnt piece of bacon. When I was younger I lived with my grandmother and she would always wanted to cook for us...but, she would always burn everything. So now that I am older I find myself liking "blackened (whatever)" or "Well done (whatever)". My brother however hates bacon, maybe it's something in the bacon that stirs up haters...hmmmm!

I'd be ok if you didn't try to reach folks like bacon-yum. There are plenty of obnoxious trendy blogs, websites, and media out there for him. I appreciate the "grating, fuzzy-wuzzy, overly-earnest tone". That's why I listen and support public radio and television. And it's why shows like Day to Day get on my nerves and perhaps why the proposed new show may also irritate me. But perhaps NPR can have both types of shows. I guess I'm ok with that, just please don't lose the good stuff because of the haters. By the way, I'm a white 32 year old male who lives in the midwest. So that might help pigeon-hole me, or not.

I wonder for how many listeners it was actually Imus "and" NPR. NPR is our maiden aunt, Imus our cantankerous old uncle (the occasionally disreputable one). Between them we had the perfect family.

Aww, I love NPR's Prarie Home Companion.... GK has an awesome voice and does a great show. Tis the best, in my opinion. Guess if you grew up with it and lived with it every weekend it could get old. ;P

I would like to sit down with Bacon Yum and try to work through his problems with him - I'm sure I could make him.....feel better afterwards

Hi, I just love everything about this station. We go to Florida in the winter and listen every day. My question is "What radio station can I tune into in Ontario"
