Bryant Park: Road To Respect (Part XVII)

Our video producer Win Rosenfeld has been digging into the long and sordid history of Bryant Park, the eponymous site of our project. Here's the first part of a several-part series. Check back in a week for the next installment, Part XVIII. And check out this audio segment, where Luke and Alison discuss the piece with Win, play something called Rip 'n Read, and talk with Esquire music columnist Andy Langer about summer music festivals.

Great webcast-- I like the voice behind the statue, made me think that maybe the NPR radio newscasts for the show should stream from airwaves and the statues around NYC, ha.
I'm actually finishing up my masters in journalism at Northwestern (hint...I would love to work for the show) and my one critique of the video is that it is too long, i say for webcasts after 1:30 people lose interest, sad statement but true
Another idea for a webcast...capture the Bryant Park Movies (ha, not the actual movie) but the part where everyone gets up and sings the HBO theme song and starts dancing around...why won't people dance in bars or clubs but they'll get up in a Park and dance like monkeys???!
oh and here are some ideas for show names...
BYOVoice, Raised, NYLinks, (YOO-fah-nee), Next, Subground, Citybound, Just say it, The listener, The Cubicle, The Gremlin, 29, The Morning Shades, The Big Umbrella, NYfascinated, City, Apostrophe, The Mad Roundtable, navi (a made up word-- make it mean whatever you want), The Friday Afternoon, Bridges

Too much Monty Python, not enough Sarah Vowell.

Interesting, but how about mentioning Nikola Tesla? The severely undercredited man out of time who has a little street sign in Bryant Park 'Nikola Tesla Corner' where one of his laboratories used to be. Tesla only invented AC Electricity, Radio, X-Rays, Wireless Transfer of Electricity amongst other things. Edison and Westinghouse stole his ideas and screwed him over. As time unfolds history is retold and in that Nikola Tesla will be more exposed. To learn more, see www.bulaja.com/tesla/tesla_eng.htm and if interested email me at info@eyespotfilms.com, DP/Editor of this project.

I thought this was a great piece. As life long a New York City resident I always love to hear more history about our city. And I like that you guys are providing more video.

Mr. Sternlicht needs to be corrected. Mr. Tesla lost his grip on sanity and, as you might think, this had much to do with his decline. I guess it's just easier to blame others.

Taking off on Elise's comment, I am very keen to hear about some potential names that are percolating around. I would be a fan of keeping the "project" aspect of the name-is there a really sweet arcane synonym for project that is out there?

Hey Laura -- Name soon. Glad you like the "project"aspect. We're batting that around. We're at a bit of a crossroad, though....still thinking...
