Lollapalooza to Rock Chitown

Wish I could be there this time around. I was at Lollapalooza '92, which also included Pearl Jam. They put on a great show, though Vedder nearly broke my fingers - I was sitting on the riser just below him taking pictures for the music mag I was running at the time. (I also nearly got pummeled by a giant cow rib chucked at me by Ministry's Al Jourgensen, but that's a story for another blog comment.)

Everyone at the show was pretty nervous - Hurricane Andrew was bearing down on FL that day and no one was sure at first if the storm would hit Orlando or Miami - so Vedder and other performers actually announced storm coordinates to let everyone know it was veering south. They ended the show with a great performance of Baba O'Riley. Wish I'd shot video that day....

Concerning the branding issues, I would like to hear about how marketers try to make their companies hip for gigs like Lollapalooza.

good show young chaps...and chapette...diverse themes well covered...and glad to see that npr is movin out beyond us baby boomers...not that there's anything wrong with us BB's...but thanks for helping to keep us current! i think the interactive fall show will be fun and important. jay

I think you are right about looking at the bigger picture. After listening to it again, I think I should have done a better job of painting the picture of what everything looked like, who was attending, how many people showed up. I sometimes get wrapped up in the music....but scene setting is important.

Thanks for your additional thought concerning the segment -- music is so much fun to talk about. However, you're doing a great job. From my perspective, it is kind of strange providing criticism when I know I would do much worse than you as a host.
