A Little Update

The next few days will be a bit quiet on the BPP front, but we do have a couple of blog-exclusive tidbits in the pipeline. We'll be focusing most of our energies on preparing for next week's launch. And what do we have in store, you ask? Well the proposed guest list looks something like this: Nancy Pelosi, Reese Witherspoon, Dave Grohl, Steve Martin, Kanye West, Bill Clinton, J.D. Salinger, Bono, Dick Cheney, both Presidents Bush, Osama bin Laden, and Jared from Subway. Unfortunately, while we proposed those guests, we didn't necessarily get them. Or even try to get them.

But we do have Ben Harper coming into the studio for an interview and live performance, so that's super cool. And there will be more, much more.

On a separate note, I did want to respond to a question raised by Drew and others: Will the blog continue? The answer to that is an unequivocal "Hells yeah." We intend to do enough original writing, blog-exclusive audio and video, and general engagement that this site will stand on its own, period, radio show notwithstanding. Of course the show and blog will complement each other, and the separate components might be even more awesome when enjoyed as a whole, but this blog will live on, even during the times of day when the microphones are off.

Good to hear. Nice to see you'll continue to let the damn CyberKids on the CyberLawn.

(See, that's futuristic because I added 'Cyber' to several words. It'll be the best thing that happened to the interweb since...err...the interweb and its series of tubes.)

I've zoned out a bit, so these questions may have been answered in posts past, but are you sticking with "BPP" as the name of the show? And is there a list of stations that we can hear the show on?

I know you're just about to launch, so I hope it's not too late for this feedback...Thus far BPP has been experimental with its framing but not with its content. I beg you: please don't just recycle the same NPR material that we hear on every NPR show all day long. I am a 28-yr-old female indie rock musician and a teacher. I'm thrilled that you're developing an NPR show with a younger, hipper sensibility. But what I want to hear you (casually and intelligently) talk about is the world of moments in living history that are happening in between the mainstream stories. Hook up with unique journalists in the field who are covering topics other than Iraq and the FED. Luke and Alison adopt a candid and mirthful anchoring style, but the content does not keep up with it. You've got a great opportunity here to fill a marketable niche and do something truly innovative at the same time. Ground your wonderful lightness and humor with seriously unique journalism. Tell us something we don't already know.

I guess my question is not so much will the blog continue (yay, btw) but will the podcast continue? I was trapped in a traffic jam for two hours with my husband and kids last week and the BPP podcast saved my marriage! (Ok not really, but still) The Jena shop owner interview kept us in discussion all the way home.

What will it take for a huge fan of both BPP and Ben Harper to get to come in and see him perform? (I noticed that you occasionally use his music as an interlude on the podcast) You can interview me about something else that will be on the show that day... I am a PhD candidate at Columbia in the Politics & Education Department. I can talk about the current state of education at the local or federal level. I also lead a volunteer group to Bosnia three summers ago. There have been talks of attempting to draw partitions along ethnic lines in Iraq similar to the resolution in Bosnia. I can speak to that and what it is like living as an American, witnessing deep-rooted ethnic hatred, the likes of which U.S. citizens cannot really comprehend.
I assume that I will not be taken up on this offer. But I will be tuning in to your show's launch, for which I wish you the best of luck. I am jealous that you will get to see Ben Harper perform up close and personal. His new album rocks, as does your show.
