BPP Pilot #21

We put a lot of thought into this pilot. How exactly should we cover 9/11? Is there a story out there that hasn't been covered yet? How much should our personal thoughts and feelings be included? And as USA Today asked, "Is 9/11 becoming just another calendar date?" We settled on a few different approaches, which you'll find in various parts of today's pilot.

But it's not all September 11th. We also cover the Congressional testimony of General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker when we survey a variety of the nation's editorial pages. We'll talk to the Seattle Seahawks' team doctor about spinal cord injuries in football, we'll talk new music with Rolling Stone's Melissa Maerz, and we'll explain how human saliva may have helped us evolve beyond apes. All that and The Ramble, in today's edition of the BPP.

Alison, did I hear you say "Worcester" with the proper dropping of any semblance of an "r" at the end? Nice!

I grew up there and, although I have overcome the speech impedi... I mean lost the accent, it's good to hear it pronounced correctly!

I was out and about tonight; thus, no play-by-play commenting.

This was a good hour. I found the story selection interesting and heard about things in a different way than I've heard elsewhere today. 4-D, spit's role in evolution research, and spinal cord injuries are interesting topics. The hour was conversational, interesting, and intelligent. Bravo!

i know i'm an episode behind; forgive me. i'd just like to suggest that it's stunningly obvious when, because the segment's time has ellapsed, alison or luke cuts off a guest who really gets goin' on answer a question asked by... uh... alison or luke. yes, interviewing is hard. been there. but one thing that will keep your listeners is totally listenable interviews... and being borderline-rude to your guests really gets in the way of that. alison just did it to your TV guy, and luke's definitely done it before.

btw, i've got the interview with marilyn van (cherokee freedmen) on right now... and this is very entertaining! everyone seems genuine. interesting guests kick butt!
