Movie critic and blogger David Poland from The Hot Blog is at the Toronto Film Festival, and he stepped out of the theater just long enough to give us a rundown of the festival's biggest hits and misses. He covered new films by the Coen Brothers and George Clooney, as well as a Sean Penn project based on the Jon Krakauer book Into The Wild.
Why is your coverage of TIFF so similar to other mainstream coverage of the festival, highlighting only a few large, high-profile features? The festival presents several hundred films, features & shorts, narrative, documentary and experimental works. As a listerner, I'd like to hear about the stuff that ISN'T covered to death elsewhere. I'm not sure that your blogger's take on David Cronenberg enlarges our understanding of the festival, since every single piece of coverage of TIFF 2007 discusses Cronenberg. What else have you got? What makes TIFF unlike going to my local theater or local film festival? I don't think the problem is with your blogger per se. It's with the narrowness of the assignment ("report from the festival") and a lack of vision in your coverage of the event asa whole.
