Guest Host Hacks Up Lung on NPR

Mike Pesca, filling in for the vacationing or AWOL or jailed or whatever host Luke Burbank, has been sent for retraining in timely use of the mute button.

Throat cleared, Pesca should be back in time for tomorrow's show -- "If they'll have me," he says.

Meanwhile, Burbank, just relax and enjoy the volleyball stars of Washington State. We're keeping your chair warm.

Listening to Mike was kind of painful. You were trying too hard to be cool, like the little brother who finally was allowed to join his big sister and her cool friends. Take a deep breath and relax.

I have to say, I thought Mike Pesca sounded terrific -- cough and all. He really fills the mic.

Drat it won't play on my machine.

@Bradford--we threw the clip into a Flash player. Give it another try, if you can.

Thanks for doing that for me. I was able to download the file, not sure why it wouldn't play. :)

Mike, I feel your pain...

These coughs always seem to happen at the wrong time. My personal bad story was I was calling my boss and as soon as he picked up the phone I started coughing. I went out and bought a new headset for the phone at the office, making sure it had a mute/cough button.

Yours was much subtler.

I agree with Faith. It seemed like Mike was trying too hard to impress and be clever. I hope he tones it down until Luke returns.

Today's show was easily one of the best episodes to date, in my opinion. While I love Luke, Mike was amazing. Sonorous voice, great wit, and extremely likable personality. He was a little too intense at the beginning of the show but got totally into the groove by Ramble time.

But please ??? pretty please ?????whatever you do promise us that Rush Limbaugh's name will never again be mentioned or referenced on-air. It's just too painful.

Mike Pesca is radio gold. Kurdish Separatists + Marsha Gay Harden? That is pure genius.

Trying too hard? Please. Your brain needs to try harder to understand his awesomeness.
