If the gods of rock 'n' roll stay good, tomorrow we'll subject the world to the 40 worst lyricists of all time — courtesy of Blender magazine and senior critic Jon Dolan.
And no, I'm not going to tell you the winner (loser?) right here and now — that much you can read for yourself. But I am going to pick a fight with the fans of a certain long-defunct psychedelic band from California whose singer turned up dead in a Paris bathtub. After the bump, y'all.
Weighing in at number 10 on Blender's list, it's Jim Morrison of the Doors. They call his work "poetry a drug-mad hippie would come up with if he'd never read a single book" and flag this bit from "The Unknown Solider" as his worst ditty:
"Breakfast where the news is read/Television children fed/Unborn living, living, dead/Bullet strikes the helmet's head."
I always thought the Doors' lousiest line was that yowling business about crawling down the hall after your mother. But let me tell you, overall, I am so with Blender on this.
