Quick, get the Joy of Cooking!
Word to the galley-kitchen chefs of the world: We're looking for someone who's bravely hosting Thanksgiving for the first time. If you're game for talking about that faux-game bird in the oven, we're game for calling.
Volunteer in the comments. With a vengeance, please.
Well... it's not my FIRST time... just my second.
The fun part are the guests this year:
my two kids (aged one and 2.5 years)
my mom and dad
my wife's mom and dad
and the sister in-law.
The sister-in-law reminds me A LOT of Sarah Vowell. I'd love input from Sarah as to how to keep the sister-in-law "happy."
First Thanksgiving here in Williamsburg, VA: 13 adults and 3 children from my husband's family. New house, dog that hates children, sister's new Jack Russel puppy, and this is the first Turkey I will ever cook. Dinner isn't until 8 PM EST so I have all day for the anxiety to grow ...
My first Thanksgiving in Houston, TX - new husband, new family, new house, new city! 11 guests ranging from his family and friends, to my parents joining us from Alabama the day afterward - I'm starting around 8am for a 2:30pm dinner, hopefully the Turkey won't gobble back at me!
OK. So far, any of the other posters will be more interesting to hear from on "the BIG day."
The best stories are never about the meal and how it "succeeds" or "fails," but how your guests "behave."

For Diana: Plan around the kids and the dogs. Adults can learn to cope. Kids need attention and also serve as entertainment for the adults.
For Christine: Make sure everything you plan to serve is "old hat." Whatever you cook best; cook it Thursday. you seem to have enough other "new" things in the mix.
For Everyone: The key to the Turkey is NOT FROZEN. If you bought a frozen bird, it better have been defrosting in the fridge since Sunday. If it's still frozen, set it on your counter (in the roaster) today. Oh - and don't forget to remove the wads of "junk" from inside the bird before cooking/stuffing. Yeah - that "bag of stank-ness."
