Listener Challenge: Write Us a Rap

The emergency room nurses at the University of Alabama at Birmingham wrote and performed the rap for national nurses' week. It's kind of beyond genius, maybe even eternal.

And we want one, too. Listeners, get the beat on, please -- write us a rap, either for the BPP or the NPR or your new toaster over. Whatever's got you, make it rhyme. Please.

Walking, perambulate, my mass,
I'm a street-smart junkie with a mouth full of trash,
I'm the coolest little rhymer that you ever did see,
So cool it's like my mind is a rap diction-ry.

Straight out of the burg with my thesaurus in hand,
I kick a can to the curb with the sound of a *bang!*,
I say the can was filled with some rust-colored Coke,
But regardless of that I need to get my old dope.

When I get to the joint my man say's he ain't got my fix
he says "we don't take your type, we don't beat the sticks,
Of the political machine you call the DNC,
We're Independents here; Red, White, Blue, and Free!"

REFRAIN (OPTIONAL):
[ Political Junkie, what can you do,
You sit in your study just reading the news.
Political Junkie, there is nowhere to hide,
information is crack, you jones or you die. ]

Check the New York Times five, six, nine times a day
It's just so addicting, I can't stay away.
Wash Post, McClatchy, LA Times and Econo too,
I swear, I promise, just 'till the primaries are through!

But wait, "The News Hour" is on in fifteen minutes,
My next decade is booked, I already bought the tickets
On that Faustian trip they call network TV,
And . . . oooh, look, a new "Oprah" at three!

My mornings are filled with rad NPR smoke,
In my afternoon I inject some more media coke.
I'm whacked out on drugs (the rhetorical kind),
Absorbing so much I might be losing my mind!

REPEAT OPTIONAL REFRAIN

I don't have the time, I'm busy as heck,
I can't afford the habit but I can't hit the deck,
The deadlines are closing, the end is near,
I need to cut this rapping now and focus on my career.

Raise it up 'ya all! MC Will G is in the house.
