I know a few people who have served time for really really trivial drug offenses. Jail and being labeled a criminal can be psychologically scarring to some people, especially if they do drugs becuase of a preexisting psychological problem.
It's unjust to toss people away for minor drug offenses. The punishment way outweights the crime. If you want people to get of drugs, give them a job, a purpose, and a community to belong to.
And from a logistics standpoint, our prison system is too full, and can't handle these mass amounts of drug busts.
