BPP Safety Record: 5 Krulwich-Free Days

Dear BPP,
I know your m.o. is light and breezy, but today's piece on female monkeys yelling during intercourse was juvenile and sophomoric and inappropriate. I expect more sophisticate stories from BPP, not childish sexual titillation. Who after all approved the monkey story? And what are you guys thinking?

I personally didn't have any problem with all the monkey sex talk.

It is just sex, after all. Nothing juvenile, sophomoric or inappropriate about it. It is as natural as eating, drinking, and sleeping. Furthermore, it's pretty hard to bash a story as scientifically enlightening as this. Just think, before now most of us never knew why Macaca sylvanus was disturbing the poor folks next door. Now we know!

We also know now that Bill Wolf already knew what the racket was about, which means . . . something.

And as for the looming editorial question if conversation about monkey sex is family "friendly" . . . people only need to ask themselves "Where do families ultimately come from" and the answer should become self-evident. "Friendly" in this case just means "supports growth" (double entendres not intended).

Krulwich is great! (And a better plan-B than the PSA carts we used in college radio.)

Hi,

I'm curious to know what your plan is for hiring a new co-host for Alison. Are you trying out a few people and then deciding? By the way, I was surprised by the monkey piece, but I was good with it; after all, that's what that part of the show is for, isn't it, unusual bits of info we might not come across otherwise. I love Alison and her husband together on the show! I know that couldn't be a permanent thing, though (they might have to choose between marriage and the show!). I think a mellow, masculine presence combined with Alison's positive energy creates is a perfect mix for this show. Or you could just have Alison on her own, and that would be great, but too exhausting, I guess.

Hey everyone -- we are in the process of trying folks out for co-host. You all heard Toure earlier this week. And we'll have more in the coming weeks.

I'm glad you guys liked the Bill Wolff. He is as awesome in person as he sounds on the radio.

Sorry some of you didn't like the monkey piece. But it was actual science! And we don't shy away from the news! Goes to show you, different strokes for different folks...er...well..

**AND I have some actual planned Krulwich to air next week. Something on Christmas Day, and another story for the New Year. Good stuff.

With no disrespect to Bill Wolff or Allison Stewart, I have to say that I would enjoy hearing his weekly sports rundowns more than I would like to have him as a permanent co-host. His on air manner seemed a bit over bearing, in my opinion.

If Toure were to host again, I would probably stop listening.

Personally, I thought Toure was great. By Tuesday's show it felt like he had been at the BPP for weeks.

It's not difficult to imagine Bill Wolf, Robert Smith, or (let us not forget) Rachel Martin manning one of the co-host seats full time. Heck, even Mike Pesca is growing on me, if only through mere exposure.

For me: Bill, Toure, Robert, Mike, in that order, but there's not that much space in between them. There's something to Robert Smith getting the job just so I can pretend it's the guy from the Cure: it's fun to imagine Alison's co-host sitting behind the mic with black hair teased a foot high and smeared lipstick.

Also, if it turns out to be Robert, you have to make the song "Robert Smith" by the Gay (Vancouver BC indie-pop band tangentially related to the New Pornographers) his permanent theme song. At least, it needs to be the best song in the world Today on the day it's announced that he's the new co-host.
