I just heard your interview with Laurel Richie from the Girl Scouts. She talked about the branding and marketing of the Girl Scouts and how she'd like people to associate the word "leadership" with the organization.

Well, the Girl Scouts are constantily developing their leadership skills as they move through the program. They are taught to work with and mentor younger scouts and to be involved in their community. The problem with Girl Scouts is that the organization itself does NOT advertise the accomplishments of their members. There is very little community recognition for the service projects they accomplish compared to the hoopla accompanying a Boy Scout earning his Eagle award, etc. (I have a son in Cub Scouts as well as a daughter who is a Cadette in Girl Scouts.)

Oh, and if you check out the current Badge Book, you would see that Girl Scouts at many levels can earn badges in Orienteering (think geocache), engineering, aerospace, mathematics, etc. It's not just about making jewelry or learning how to set up your own tent while backpacking. Your idea of the scouts is "behind the times" which is natural since they have not been keeping the public updated as to what the young women are actually accomplishing.

This has nothing to do with the rundown, rather Friday's show. I just had to say that I loved loved the Emergency Krulwich sketch. Between you guys and old Wait Wait shows, I laugh almost all day.
