Coming at You: Muxtape.com

Muxtape.com

Making a run at the way we listen to music.

On March 25, a New York City photographer guy posted this on his blog:

"I'm proud to introduce Muxtape, a new way to share, discover and listen to hand-picked music online."

Within days, people in our Twitter-verse began sending us links to Muxtape.com, and I can see why. The site lets you create a 12-song playlist that you can display on the site or send out as a simple link -- as in justin.muxtape.com.

I've got a message into Justin Ouellette, the brain behind Muxtape. Meanwhile, here's a bit more from his site:

"My goal is nothing short of changing the way we consume, distribute, and discover music."

I seem to remember that if you only use a small percentage of an image or song at that point it becomes a new work of art. these muxtapes are a great idea. props.

I tried to upload a song and it wouldn't let me. So, I have to give this site a thumbs down.

Holy carp! This is amazing.

Tossed some stuff up to check out the site; probably will add more in a bit. I tried to keep it "legal", so everything on this list was already made available for free by the respective artists, is just a truncated clip, or is so far out of print it will never see the light of day again.

The disclaimer weirded me out. I put up 2 J-pop songs (as faerirose) until I listen to the interview tomorrow and find out more regarding the legality of muxtape. (sorry if I double post, I got an error and no confirmation of post submission for my earlier post here)

Brian, you made my day with the UNKLE Doctor Who remix! Reminded me that it's been an age since I listened to the Orbital remix of same.

I played with this a couple weeks ago when someone on one of my mailing lists posted a link. Try this:

Artists included: The Negro Problem (whose leader, Stew, is now on Broadway with an incredible musical called PASSING STRANGE), The Monochrome Set, Barbara Manning, Jenny Owen Youngs, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, Stereolab, John Southworth, The High Llamas, Zumpano, Heavenly, Velocity Girl. Clearly, I was thinking fondly of my indie-kid days.
