Lirpa Loof? It's Safe to Tell

Today's the day for being had -- April 1, April Fool's, whatever you want to call it.

Me, I can't recall being completely pranked, except by a vintage NPR report about a trustafarian named Lirpa Loof. Would I have fallen for the one about the Swiss spaghetti crop?

I wonder, too, if April Fool's has become the mostly another province of mass media. Whatever happened to the old-fashioned folk prank? Got one? Been the object of one? Do tell, will ya?

Being RickRolled on April Fool's On-Air is pretty massive! Kudos

This was not terribly clever, but the even prankee thought it was funny. After a while. Many years ago my girlfriend had her car in for service on April 1. I had a friend call her as the garage, "Did you notice any strange vibrations on the way home? We found a bunch of lug nuts from a Toyota Camry and we think they might be yours. Yes, we're positive they're from a Camry." The good news is she married me anyway.

I have to admit, this gmail "Custom Time" diddly had me for the first few blearly e-mail checks of the morning.

Also, I have a friend who's birthday is also April 1st, and she likes to tell a story about how in the 8th grade, the most popular boy in school asked her out on a date for her birthday, and when she came to school in her nicest clothes, all ready for her date, he cornered her against the lockers and shouted, "April Fools! I'd never date you!"

Middle school. Never. Again.
