The Kings of Crab

Bering Straits crab fishermen Andy and Johnathan Hillstrand appear on the Discovery Channel's The Deadliest Catch and have just released a book about their adventures called Time Bandits. They dropped by the BPP to discuss a profession considered by many to be the most deadly in the world.

These guys are amazing. Thanks for having them on. Great interview Rachel.

On a side note, what are you staring at exactly in the beginning? Is your script always on the computer screen? random question I know, but I'm just curious.

Rachel/Michael, I was wondering the same thing about the screen. I have to say that Rachel and Alison do such a good job of sounding like they don't read from a script. The inflection and tone in their radio voice makes the show that much more enjoyable and genuine.

hey michael and liam - to answer your question. most of what you hear on the bpp is indeed unscripted but we do have some background information with us for interviews like this one and that's what you saw me reading from. a little peek behind the bpp curtain! thanks for listening....

Thanks so much for sharing a video of the interview. John and Andy are amazing men who do a deadly job, just to provide those fortunate few who can afford it, the best crab possible. You don't often see people risking their lives to put food on our tables. I don't listen to much "mainstream" radio, but I'm a fan of the show, especially the Hillstrands, so it was great to see and hear them on NPR. Thanks again!
