Sound Off: Your Letters to the Next CIC

Artist Sheryl Oring types letters to the president for perfect strangers. A lot of letters. You can learn a little more about her here. And while Sheryl was in town, she was also kind enough to play secretary for a few BPP listeners. Check out their letters -- and add your own -- below.

And while you're at it, check out NPR's Get My Vote Project. It's for you.

Dear Mr. President,
Will we ever see your predecessor
George W. Bush prosecuted for illegal
wiretapping, or other felonies such
as the violation of treaties to which
the USA is a signatory, or will we
continue the tradition of the
President being above any consequences
of violating the law, which was rubbed
in the face of the citizenry when
it saw Richard M. Nixon ride off
on Marine One to a privileged
lifestyle, instead of a jail-cell?
Sincerely wondering what a country
with justice for all would be like,
Marc Allen

Dear next President,
Please begin to treat the American public with the respect we deserve. We get up everyday, and we work hard. We pay our bills, we pay our taxes, we raise our families and we help our neighbors. We cry when we see forgotten Americans strewn by the side of the road. We love our troops, we love our planet.
We think that ALL are created equal, man or woman, black or white, straight or gay, Jew or Muslim or Christian.
we are tired of everything being about power, and greed and more. We want Peace, in all things. Peace.

Dear Mr.President, Don't shut your ears to the cries of your people for honest work, healthcare for all, ability to live decently on their pay,to grow old knowing that their social security will always be safe. Don't shut you eyes to the poor and homeless, to the returning soldiers, the inequality that pervades so much of society,or the extreme peril of our planet. Always use your voice to tell us the truth in everything. We are so tired of the lies and serets. And always rule with your heart along with your mind. If you govern with love for humanity, it will return twofold for all. We know you have to make difficult decisions to get us out of this mess we are in. But we are here to do our part. Let us roll up our sleeves together and get to work. I don't think we have much time left. So much damage has been done. But you can count on me. good luck, Maggie Abran

Dear Mr. or Madame President,

I beg of you: remember that governments must be answerable to the people. The most disturbing and dictatorial precedents have been established over the past 8 years; we have witnessed and thankfully--hopefully--outlasted the most UN-American period in American history. I love my country, always have, always will. But I remember a time when I was PROUD of my country. A time when we led through example, when we stood for liberty and justice, a time when we were the great shining hope. We've become the source of fear, anger, and despair for much of the world.
To you, the long slow task of rebuilding relationships and of re-establishing American in the world consciousness as a leader and not a bully. I wish you well, and will support you in every way I can.
Congratulations, commiserations, and best of luck.

Dear (Next) Mr. or Madame President,
Give us peace. Plain and simple. Give us peace. I ask of you to lead by example and give us a country that we can all proudly call home.
I'm still young in my life, but I want desperately to live in a country where I'm not ashamed by our leader's actions. I want desperately to be unafraid to have children and bring them up in this world that becomes increasingly scarier and crime-ridden.
I pray to God above that you, our next PRESIDENT, will have the great wisdom and fortitude it will take to become a shining beacon of hope and integrity to your American people and to the rest of the world.

Yours very respectfully,

Isaiah Knight
