Oh hai,
Comments on today's show:
The surfer murder 2-way went way too long. Not enough content, plus that poor reporter was half asleep.
Loved the Lindsay Pollack segment on expensive art, but surprised no one mentioned Rauschenberg in this context ... already expensive to collect; how much more can his works go up now that he's gone?
All best,
Lars

Doesn't video sound good when you use microphones? I think so.

I kinda wish you folks had studio webcams, a la BBC Radio 5 Live.

I'm pondering the NPR most about midwest 20-something flight. I wonder how many of the people who leave the midwest regret the decision later. Or even how much they identified with their hometown or home state in the first place. I realize that the following example is a small sample size but it's what makes me ponder.

I have a friend who just graduated from grad school in Pennsylvania and she said that she is totally sick of the east coast and wants to come back to the midwest and wouldn't even consider a job that wasn't in the midwest. I have a set of friends (married couple) one of whom is in grad school in New York and they both aren't too thrilled with the east coast and want to move back to the midwest. Both examples identify pretty well with their home city and state. Especially the one formerly in Pennsylvania; she takes great pride in being from the cheese and beer state. As she should.

1. I left Michigan when I was 23.

2. New York State (Upstate in specific) has had a net loss in population sicne about 1990.

3. I saw Client 9 before he was governor and a punchline, address Colgate University's graduating class two years ago all but begging graduating seniors to stay in New York. When the laughter died down ...

It is not about location, it is about jobs. Young people -- all people -- go where the jobs are. GOOD jobs.

I'm going to post here the line that I thought of in the control room, but we had just spent way too much time already on the gun story:
"Guns don't scratch people. People scratch people."

The statue in the river was of Poseidon. Neptune is the Roman version.

Gee Heather, I didn't know that the ancient Greeks had a presence in the town that Caesar founded.
