Linkfest: French Winemakers Uncork Rage

Vintners in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France are up in arms over the declining price of wine. Seven thousand of them took to the streets in protest.

It's the BPP's Most.

Angry winegrowers in Languedoc are decidedly not news. It's a cultural tradition that goes waaaay back. And one that is tolerated by authorities who are oddly afraid of them. There is a real discrepancy in the way the public and authorities react to this "old fashioned" unrest, and any rioting among suburban youth in the housing projects...

And there is in France, particularly among farmers, a notion that they have a natural right to have people buy their goods, whatever the price, whatever the quality. It's most odd, most French.

LOL is it bad if the first thing I thought about when Trish said "Bleach" was the manga? And I don't even read or watch it.

And great show today :D I haven't enjoyed a show *this much* for a while. Loved the Casablanca mock-up. Very Remember WENN-esque.

Will miss you Rachel :)

Revealing my dorkiness:

@ Ian, scanlators only scan the pages of the manga and translate text in the word bubbles. The kana used to represent sound effects are unchanged, and they don't rearrange panels or flip the image so as to read from left to right. It's too much work and fans would whine about it.

Just a wee comment... those folks in Languedoc are mainly wine growers, not wine makers or vintners. And the wine they make is, on the whole, crap, which is probably the biggest reason no one wants to buy the stuff.
