The UTube story is probably popular on NPR since there was a story about it on CNN (I think) earlier this week or last week.
I still don't see how the research suggesting people have a small travel radius is worth spending time on...
What would be the motivation to go someplace far away once you've arrived at someplace far away? When I go to Japan for vacation, I'm not going to take a day trip to China when there's plenty to do in Japan... otherwise, I would have just gone to China. I travel for work and I still don't get this... when I'm working in Boulder, I'm going to stay in Boulder and make small commutes to the places I need to go. Why would I arrive and then make a long trip somewhere else... it kind of defeats the purpose of arriving somewhere.
Do you think maybe people stay within a short radius of where they are because, oh, I don't know, it's time consuming to go further away... we wouldn't get anything done if we extended our travel radius once we've arrived somewhere. Plus, it's more expensive.
