We're winding down the final days of the BPP, and we're marking the time by taking you through each of the five stages of grief, in the form of our regular feature, The Best Song in the World Today. Yesterday we did denial. Today it's Anger. That was a tough straw for me to draw, since I'm hoping to get a good reference from NPR. But here's what I came up with:

So, I may be a little late to voicing my opinion, but the ending of the BPP is truly tragic.
A few months ago, in an effort to be more informed and start my day actually thinking instead of bumbling my way through my morning routine in deafening silence, I checked out the NPR website. My step-dad all throughout my childhood (and to this day) listens to NPR religiously every morning, if not all day. I figured it was at least an engaging, though perhaps somewhat droll way to start the day all those years ago. And having noticed that NPR streams live every morning, I figured I'd give it a shot. I am creeping toward my upper 20s afterall and being a somewhat conscious and aware person is something I aspire to be.
How pleasantly surprised was I to find that there was such a program as the Bryant Park Project! With, could it be, Alison Stewart of MTV fame that was always a refreshing voice during the sanitized 90s music world at the helm? I honestly didn't get confirmation of that until listening just the other day. But the mere prospect of a news/talk-radio format, with a youthful, vibrant perspective, and just the right balance between hard news, current events with a pop twist was just too good to be true.
I stuck with this program though my own cable provider's constant signal issues, and even the slightly frustrating volume levels which drastically differ between the program itself and Mark G's news headlines not to mention that Mike Pesca (sp?) fellow who filled in for Alison (no offense, but he is perhaps the public radio equivalent of the suburban dj - much better than that, but not at all what I was used to). And to have learned on Mon that the stages of grief were being explored to work through the death of this show - it was as painful as it was joyous to find this show.
I imagine that I am exactly the demographic that was targeted for this show and that, sadly, there were not enough of me to sustain it.
It must be noted, though, that this is exactly what I wanted to make my 45 minute morning routine more bearable and my world a bit more informed and bright.
Bravo to each and everyone there at the BPP. I hope that whatever programming that takes your place includes you (yes, even Mike P.) and much luck in your future endeavors. The world (or at least mine) will be a much more cranky and boring place. I'm not a morning person, after all, and you all definitely helped diffuse that and make me a little more knowledgeable and aware in general.
Excellent segment! I don't think I'll ever get "past" this stage. NPR, you're dead to me.
