So this is a big stretch, but when I heard the discussion about why "esoteric" may have been a google trend it reminded me that yesterday I saw the same Family Guy episode at least twice which featured Peter pondering what the word meant. Given the fact that the show is now in heavy syndication, and given that the typical Family Guy watcher isn't going to know what esoteric means - I have a PhD and have trouble with it too - perhaps enough folks hit google for a definition. Just a thought to help solve the mystery.
