The Rundown For...Ever

E-mail This Story!

A long time ago I attempted to create a story that would make it to #1 on the NPR.org Most E-mailed List. To accomplish my goal I studied the list, and created a story that included elements commonly found on the list. Back then I peaked at #2. The #1 story got linked on Yahoo.com, and that was that. So I'm making one more attempt. Go to the story and e-mail it to everyone you know. (Keep in mind that when you enter a list of e-mail addresses separated by commas, the site only counts it as one e-mail. You have to enter one address, hit send, then go back and do the process again.)

Now get e-mailing. Use this version of the story from today's show. This is our lasting legacy on NPR!

From the Subway to the Radio Waves

Update: Voting closed Monday at 6 a.m. See full results.

Only a few days left to vote for your favorite NYC subway busker! The contest ends Monday, when the winner will be announced on our broadcast.

You can also watch a story about the Music Under New York auditions, and see many more buskers, including a musician who plays an instrument without touching it. It's nuts.

And now...the contestants.

The Rundown: WYSIWYG Version

No video rundown today, folks. Our video producer, Win Rosenfeld, is out sick and he's the one who usually films me and Trish. (aka Turner and Hooch) Actually, we tried to do it ourselves. BPP Director Jacob Ganz filmed us -- we even made paper versions of the opening graphics and I hummed the theme song. It was low-fi-tastic. But, alas, we did not know how to put the moving pictures into the fancy computer machine Win got for Hanukkah. So, you are stuck with this text version of what's on the show Monday. I know, boooooooooring! We apologize.

-- Jim Vandehei from Politico is here to talk about the New Hampshire Primary. (Which is Tuesday, mark your calendars.)

-- Jeffrey Toobin will be on talking about the Supreme Court's decision to hear a case about whether a state can execute someone convicted of raping a child.

-- Bill Wolff will put the NFL playoff games in perspective.

-- Indie music bands need publicity. Big corporations exploit their music through marketing campaigns. Indie music bands get publicity, become popular and lose indie cred. Someone has to be the devil, so is it the corporations? We'll discuss.

-- Sean Donnelly is the director of a new documentary that follows two "fans" of 80's pop star Tiffany. It's hilarious and disturbing all at once. He'll be on the show to talk about it.

See you on Monday!

Friday's Rundown Cometh

Tomorrow is the shortest day of the year, but the BPP will still be two awesome hours long. Be there:

To the Rescue: Anil Dash on the BPP

Anil Dash

Anil Dash, OMG

Anil Dash, one of the world's very very very first bloggers, is coming on the show tomorrow to talk about the Ron Paul-valanche. (Anil, man, thank you.)

If you've never read him, start now. He's seriously smart, and he's seriously got style. Here's Mr. Dash on Google:

Theory of mind is that thing that a two-year-old lacks, which makes her think that covering her eyes means you can't see her. It's the thing a chimpanzee has, which makes him hide a banana behind his back, only taking bites when the other chimps aren't looking.
Theory of mind is the awareness that others are aware, and its absence is the weakness that Google doesn't know it has. This shortcoming exists at a deep cultural level within the organization, and it keeps manifesting itself in the decisions that the company makes about its products and services. The flaw is one that is perpetuated by insularity, and will only be remedied by becoming more open to outside ideas and more aware of how people outside the company think, work and live.
