We miss New York, trendsetter in fashion and public health.
Next stop?
After we moved to Washington last year, we realized just how much we'd come to rely on the calorie counts on fast food menus. Those Nathan's hot dogs weren't as bad as we'd feared. Cheese fries, though? Fuhgeddaboudit!
So in a moment tinged with public health nostalgia, we took note today of the wrapper-design contest for the NYC Condom, the official, stylish and free condom of the Big Apple. The city promotes the use of condoms to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases and cut down on unplanned pregnancies.
Part of making condoms more popular is making them cool.
From more than 600 entries for a limited-edition package, the city picked five finalists. One design, featuring a subway entering a tunnel, looks to be the work of a close watcher of the famous ending to Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest. Cary Grant would approve, we're pretty sure. (See it above.)
But judge for yourself, and cast your vote here through the end of February. The winner will be announced March 10.
