What a delight to have Lassie featured on NPR! I grew up with a collie in the 1960s and have had a collie ever since. I now take my collie (with the white blaze down his nose!) to schools to read an abridged version of Lassie Come Home. Children continue to be delighted by this timeless story of courage and devotion.

There are stories in the newspaper just about every day about a dog rescuing a family. Also, stories about people rescuing lost or abused animals. so I think Lassie rings true for a lot of people. The dog-human bond is ancient and strong.
