Bill Clinton Could Have Been An Obstetrician

Add one more accomplishment to the many former President Bill Clinton can and will tout: he seems able to induce pregnant women to deliver babies merely by posing for photos with them.

The man who claims credit for policies that helped the economy create 23 million jobs and produced federal budget surpluses also seems to have obstetrical powers.

On Sunday, at an Ohio appearance where Clinton was stumping for Gov. Ted Strickland and Rep. John Boccieri, the congressman had to suddenly depart when his wife went into labor.

Which prompted the former president, who like Teddy Roosevelt, often seems to want to be the bride at every wedding and the corpse at every funeral, to note how often this has happened to him.

His wife’s having a baby. He has to leave. The baby’s now being born; tell him goodbye.

You’d be amazed how many times I take a picture with a very pregnant woman and she immediately gives birth like that...

And with the new baby's grandparents in the audience, Clinton added:

I would like some credit for your fifth grandchild being born into the world. We got another Democrat, I wish we could register that baby before it’s too late.”

The way things are looking for Democrats generally, that baby might be the rare piece of good news to happen Clinton's party this week.
