A 10-month old pig named Mr. Favors did none for U.S. Senate candidate Mark Neumann on Monday in Milwaukee.
Neumann, a former congressman, wanted the pig to signify his opposition to Washington-style pork. But the pig was obviously edgy. (If you were a pig being ogled by a bunch of omnivores, you would be too.) The squealing pig forced Neumann, who held and stroked the pig, perhaps to comfort it, to retreat from the cameras at least twice.
It was just one more example of the wisdom of the old show-business adage: "Never work with children or animals."
